Our new touring show for 2019 is set in a retro 1970s, pop-up caravan, called Sydney. The Anarchist’s Mobile Library will explore the world of characters, locations and adventures from some of the best children’s books throughout history that feature anarchic characters, weird and wonderful aesthetics and plotlines that challenge norms. The audience (of up to 3 children and 1 adult at a time) will play the role of the storymaker and they will choose a character that’s fallen from the pages of a book and accompany them on a journey around the interior of the caravan. The caravan will be decked out with a mash-up of literary worlds with lots of different stories to discover – and challenges to overcome – along the way. It’s a kind of ‘choose your own adventure’ set in an extraordinary, and mobile, library.
Join us on an adventure, discovering stories and books where you get to choose your character and watch the action unfold!
Tessa and the team had the opportunity to spend a week delving into the archives at Seven Stories to begin the start of The Anarchist’s Mobile Library. Read about Tessa’s trip to Seven Stories, National Centre for Children’s Books, who are our partner and collaborator for this show.
A few weeks later, the show’s designed Luned Gwawr Evans took a research trip up north and wrote about her trip here.
We would love to hear about your favourite book, character or maybe your favourite adventure. Fill in the survey and let us know what you’d like to see on the shelves of The Anarchist’s Mobile Library.« Back to current shows
